ANIS is a non-profit organisation with the legal status of a shareholders' company. The shareholders are the following associations having a competent knowledge in animal issues:

• Swiss Association of Veterinarians (GST): professional association of Swiss Veterinarians with the purpose of promoting the veterinary science in Switzerland, particularly education and training, of maintaining the professional interests and of helping to protect animals and nature.  (www.gstsvs.ch)
• Swiss Kennel Organisation (SKG): is taking care of dog related items, i.e. purchase, keeping, education, special training and the breeding of dogs. (www.hundeweb.org / www.chienweb.org)
• Swiss Animal Protection (STS): the oldest, nationwide active organisation in Switzerland for the prevention of cruelty to animals. It is mostly financed by private sponsors. (www.tierschutz.com)
• Swiss Association of Veterinarians for Small Animals (SVK): the largest specialized section of the Swiss Association of Veterinarians. It endeavours to keep up and promote the high standard of education of veterinarians for small animals by respective training measures. (www.kleintiermedizin.ch)
