The functions of a microchip
An animal that has been marked with a microchip and registered in a database can be identified in Switzerland and abroad with the help of a chip reader. Chip readers are available at veterinarians, animal shelters or at police stations.
Once the code has been read, registered holders can be identified within the respective databases (international search engines: www.europetnet.com / www.petmaxx.com ).
Thanks to the microchip, animals that are found can rapidly be brought back to their holder. Unnecessary stays in shelters can be reduced to a minimum.
The microchip allows a rapid identification of animals and their holder, e.g. after traffic accidents or in the case of abandoned animals.
